
ACCELERATE PROJECT
Accelerate an Eye Clinic (2024 -present) - In partnership with the Fred Hollows
Foundation (FHF), RIIO is walking side-by-side with its graduates who are now leading eye units in four regional hospitals. This initiative provides mentorship, skills development and support needed to accelerate their impact.

OUTREACH PROJECT
Community Outreaches (2002 - present) - RIIO supports 7 district hospitals across thecountry by providing mobile cataract surgical services. RIIO conducts school screenings for 20,000 children each year. RIIO partners With Gasabo District to run the RIIO Community Eye Clinic at the Kibagabaga District Eye Hospital as well as the Super specialty private hospital
the RIIO iHospital. These clinic brings high tech specialist eye care to the public and
private sector including phacoemulsification, retina surgery, cornea transplants, GATT glaucoma surgery

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial Intelligence (2019-present)
RIIO partners with 4 general diabetic clinics to implement AI powered, non-mydriatic cameras to screen and refer for retinopathy. Thisapproach was validated by RIIO with the ground-breaking RAIDERS randomised trial Study.
COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES
RIIO has been part of the Technical Working Group for Eye health since its inception and strives to be an effective partner for the Rwanda Ministry of Health. RIIO’s founders have been involved in the training of 2,534 of primary eye care (PEC) workers using the WHO curriculum adaptation of the PEC Training Manual (authorship led by Dr. Ciku Mathenge) and 100’s of allied eye health workers (training program initiated by Dr. John Nkurikiye).
RIIO has supported research in Rwanda including the only Nation wide survey of Blindness completed in 2015 with support from the Fred Hollows Foundation. RIIO has also screened the eye health of over 40000 school children in Rwanda in partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles and also with Direct Aid.
